Yuan Shu was very surprised by Sun Ce's conversation and behavior, but refused to return the team under his father's original command, and said to him: "I have appointed your uncle Wu Jing as the Taishou of Danyang County, and your cousin Sun Ben as the captain, Danyang County is a place to send elite soldiers, you can go back and rely on their strength to recruit soldiers and horses." ”

So Sun Ce and Lu Fan, a native of Runan, and Sun He, a native of his own tribe, took his mother to Qu'a, and relied on his uncle Wu Jing to take the opportunity to recruit troops locally and get hundreds of people. At that time, Yuan Shu really didn't want to return Sun Jian's old department to Sun Ce, after all, no one wanted to spit out the meat in his mouth, but the relationship between Yuan Shu and the Sun family was still very good, and Yuan Shu himself had always been very good to the Sun family, so after Sun Ce's recruitment encountered setbacks, Yuan Shu finally relented and gave him some subordinates.

Yuan Shu thought that Sun Ce was not an ordinary person at the beginning, and even often sighed and said: "If Yuan Shu had a son like Sun Lang, he would die without regrets!" Taifu Ma Riyan pacified the Kanto region, recruited Sun Ce with a gift in Shouchun, and asked Sun Ce to be the captain of Huaiyi, and the generals Qiao Rui and Zhang Xun under Yuan Shu also respected Sun Ce.

At that time, Sun Ce's subordinates had a cavalryman, and in order to escape punishment after committing the crime, he fled into Yuan Shu's military camp and hid in the stable. Sun Ce sent people to chase him, rushed straight to Yuan Shu's camp, searched out the criminals, and beheaded them on the spot. After the incident, Sun Ce went to visit Yuan Shu, explained the situation, and apologized to him. Yuan Shu not only did not blame Sun Ce, but said: "There are often rebellions among soldiers, you should do this, thank you?" ”

This incident further enhanced Sun Ce's reputation, and the army was even more in awe of Sun Ce.

But what is strange is that Yuan Shu praised Sun Ce many times on the one hand, but suppressed Sun Ce on the other hand, and even destroyed his promise twice. Yuan Shu once promised Sun Ce to let him serve as the Taishou of Jiujiang, but later switched to Chen Ji, a Danyang man.

Later, Yuan Shu prepared to attack Xuzhou, and asked Lu Kang, the Taishou of Lujiang, to send 30,000 military rations. Lu Kang didn't give it, and Yuan Shu was furious. Sun Ce attacked Lu Kang and eventually defeated him, but Yuan Shu once again appointed his former subordinate Liu Xun as the Taishou of Lujiang, and Sun Ce was even more disappointed. So he decided to go south to leave Yuan Shu and break out of a new world by himself.

The reason why Yuan Shu praised Sun Ce but did not reuse it was because he was not sure to control the little overlord, Yuan Shu knew that Sun Ce was talented, but he didn't want Sun Ce to be big, Sun Jian held a knife and discussed with Yuan Shu back then, although it was for Yuan Shu's good everyone, but Yuan Shu didn't want this kind of thing to happen a second time.

After Sun Ce sent his troops, the army fought all the way to the city of Lujiang and surrounded the city of Lujiang layer by layer. And Lu Kang led the army to hold on, and even his soldiers had gone out on vacation before, and when they heard the news, they all returned to Lujiang and climbed the city wall at night to help the guards. When Sun Ce attacked Lujiang, Lu Kang had already sent his son Lu Jihe from Sun Luxun back to his hometown of Wu County to avoid the battle, and the two escaped a catastrophe. After that, the imperial court took pity on Lu Kang's integrity in guarding the city and worshiped his son Lu Jun as Langzhong.
