Chapter 22: Quidditch Provisional Selection Test
The sun was sinking in the west, looming in the mist. The golden afterglow turned into pillars of light, falling through the gaps in the clouds to the mountains in the distance. In the midst of the magnificence, it brings people a feeling of old man's twilight.
It was still cold, the wind was howling on the Quidditch pitch, and there seemed to be a faint rumbling sound in the distance from the Forbidden Forest.
Maca and Charlotte rushed to the pitch together. He found that the lawn of the Quidditch pitch had apparently been enchanted, and that it was still green in the cold winter months.
"Coming? Hurry up and start the test. Darren greeted with a smile when he saw Maca approaching.
As Maca stretched out her arms and kicked her muscles, Darren introduced him to the official Hufflepuff players one by one. It turned out that there was a veteran team member who was about to graduate, and after learning about Maca's talent, he simply retired early to prepare for the job after graduation.
Maka greeted the team members, and he found out that in addition to him, there was another fourth-grader who would be joining him for the provisional tryout. I don't know if Maca borrowed the light from the veteran teammate, or if the fourth-grader borrowed the light from Maca, maybe it's not known if it's both!
"Alright, let's get started!" Darren smiled, then put on a more serious face and began to explain the test to the two of them.
The goal of this impromptu test was to recruit a suitable chaser.
In a Quidditch team, there are three chasers who pass the Quaffle to each other and try to throw them into the opposing team's three goal rings. Each time the Quaffle scores, you get 10 points for your team.
Chasers need to have a strong sense of tacit understanding and be able to dodge "Bludgers" hit by opposing batsmen – which obviously requires a high level of flying from the players.
Before the Seeker catches the Golden Snitch, they throw the Quaffle into the knocker as much as they can, grabbing the base score without stopping.
The veteran player who has retired now plays this position.
Therefore, this provisional test was divided into three phases in accordance with the usual selection practice.
In the first stage, the candidate will be tested with two other chasers on the Quaffle, which will test the candidate's reflexes and passing accuracy.
The Quaffle is the only one of the three balls that doesn't move on its own, and it will be completely in the hands of both chasers.
Sitting on a broomstick, Maca watched the fourth-grader not far away doing all sorts of flying maneuvers stiffly, and suddenly felt that maybe she could really do it.
"It's okay, but the reaction speed is too slow, so you have to pay attention to the situation around you at all times!" Seeing the other party flying this way, Charlotte beside Maca said with a smile.
She's a Seeker for the Hufflepuff team, and I'm heard she's pretty good.
"Go ahead! My junior brother, I think it's you! Charlotte slapped Maca in the back, nearly slapping him off the broom.
"Ouch! I said, "Sister-" "Don't be verbose, go quickly!" ”
Maca felt like a strange baby in Charlotte's Poké Ball, and she had to work hard to fight on the field when she threw it forward.
"Let's get started!" Christine, a fifth-grade female ball chaser, said a word and passed the Quaffle to Maca.
Maca immediately sped forward, catching Quaffle just where it had arrived. On the edge of the pitch, captain Darren kept shouting "move, move, move", urging him to start moving irregularly.
"Pass it to me!" Charles, the other chaser, shouted loudly, and he was now flying behind Maca.
Marca, who was doing a small dive diagonally downward, threw the Quaffle back from his shoulder without looking back, and he had already predicted Charles's specific position.
"Oh! Nice inverted pass! Darren shouted excitedly from the side.
I have to say that Maca's observation is indeed very strong, and he can keep an eye on every direction of the Quaffle while grasping the exact location of the other two at all times.
"Give it to me!" Christine swept under Maca at high speed, barely over 10 inches closer to the two.
But Marca still seized the opportunity and handed the Quaffle into Christine's hands the moment she passed by.
The players on call on the sidelines couldn't help but shout, and the two old chasers in the field exchanged glances with excitement.
The technical action of the high-speed switching just now, even Christine herself didn't plan to really complete it, but Maca did!
The two veteran players glanced at each other, intending to cooperate in a move that they had not wanted to test at all.
I saw the two of them quickly approaching on broomsticks, and only made a "catch-up" gesture for Maca and flew forward side by side.
"Twenty feet apart, interspersed with forwards, high-frequency passes!" Charles said.
Maca immediately understood that this was a medium-technical move from the Quidditch Classic Moves Collection, the Trident Offensive Formation.
He quickly reached the position on the left, and then spiraled through with the other two. In the high-speed advance, the ghost flying ball was passed back and forth by the three people at an extremely high frequency, making the other players on the sidelines almost hold their breath.
It wasn't until the three of them scattered with their own movements of leaning over and holding the ball, drawing three arcs in the air and rushing towards their different goal rings, the three stopped one after another.
Charles smiled awkwardly at Maca. In the final moments of the high-speed pass, he didn't catch it - he got off.
"Charles! It's because you always go wrong that we always don't dare to use technically difficult moves in official competitions! Let's see how you face Maca today, you know, he's a first-year freshman! Christine laughed angrily, and she pointed her slender finger at Charles and said loudly.
Maca looked at this heroic short-haired girl, and recalled the feeling of cooperating with each other just now, and felt hearty.
"Oops—I know! Next, you must practice hard and set a good example for Maca. Charles scratched his head and laughed.
It seems that Maca has been determined by the two active chasers in the first stage.
"Captain, I think that's it! That's him, yes! Christine shouted at Captain Darren.
Marka nodded at Darren as well, and then glanced at the other candidate, who was a little frustrated, and felt that accepting the status quo was not in line with the image he had worked so hard to create.
He thought about it, and said to Darren: "I think it's better to complete the test, otherwise it will be unfair to the senior who participated in the selection together." ”
Darren looked back at the fourth-grader next to Charlotte and nodded.
"Well, you're right." Darren said, "Then let's move on to the second phase of testing and pitch the ball into the ring." ”
Of course, it's not as simple as throwing a ball at the goal ring, the goalkeeper is not a vegetarian!
And the goalkeeper of the Hufflepuff team is none other than the captain - Darren Chris.
"Hey, junior brother! Our captain Darren is average goalkeeper, you can take it easy, don't hurt his pride for a while! Charlotte put her arm around Maca's shoulders and said with a grin, not in the slightest attempt to lower her voice.
"I've heard it all!" Darren was at the goal not far away, and now he was turning his head and deliberately staring at this wickedly!
The fourth-grade seniors' test ended quickly, and there were a total of ten goals and three goals, which was actually quite good for the candidates. Of course, this also shows that Darren is indeed very average.
It was Maca's turn, and he was holding the Quaffle, and he looked at Darren with a little hesitation.
"Don't worry! The stronger you are, the happier I am, after all, you're our Hufflepuff man! Darren said to Maca with a smile.
Hearing this, Maca nodded, put aside the doubts in her heart, and rushed towards the knocker on the right.
Darren reacted immediately, moving a little to the right as well, guessing if Maca was about to make a move or just trying to shake him off.
He could see Maca's flying movement just now, and the smooth and swift small arc movement undoubtedly showed that Maca's flexibility was beyond doubt.
Closer, closer, and sure enough, Maca began to revolve up and spin.
Darren immediately moved towards the middle door, but unexpectedly, Maca only pulled up, but did not do any lateral displacement.
It's a feint! Trick the goalkeeper with the illusion of a small rotation and return to the middle goal, but he only needs to use the power of the rotation to pull back to the height of the side door ring to throw the ball.
The Quaffle was thrown into the right ring, which had become an empty goal, without accident, and it was a beautiful goal!
Ten pitching drills didn't take long, and Maca scored 90 points without mercy under Darren's defense. If the last ball hadn't been grazed between Darren's fingers, Maca would have passed with a perfect score.
"Awesome!" With a bitter face, Darren beckoned Maca to fly to the sidelines, and he said as he flew, "This year's Quidditch Cup, you will be the secret weapon of our Hufflepuff team!" No, it's a super secret weapon! ”
"I've never seen a new player so talented! It's just like those rookie monsters in the pro tryouts! ”
"Senior Darren, don't say that, Quidditch is a team sport, and you can't handle the whole game alone." Maca said with a smile.
This is indeed the case, for example, in the World Cup, there is always no shortage of some surprisingly strong elite players, but so what? In a Quidditch tournament on a total point scale, it's not like you win more races to win the championship, and individual heroism is always a joke.
Even the Golden Snitch, which is worth 150 points, will be overshadowed by the base score achieved by the high level of teamwork. Not to mention the personal level of the chaser, tacit cooperation is king.
"Now for the final stage, it's easy to dodge the batsman's attacks as much as possible!"
