Volume 2 Chapter 174 New Sails

Unconsciously, due to the double impact and delay of the rainy season and the cellar, the time is almost mid-June, and I can only sigh that time flies too fast!

In addition to sighing, it is time to catch up with the progress of the work, which has been delayed by the rainy season and the cellar, and many things that should have been done before have been delayed.

The first thing that came to mind was the clay jar, which had to be fired as soon as possible last month, and if it was delayed, it would be about to crack and be scrapped.

Each clay jar is their own painstaking effort, and it would be a pity to think of how difficult it was to transport clay between the two islands in the first place, and to scrap it before it was burned!

In addition, it is really troublesome to go back to the main island to transport clay, and if you do it again, you will not only have to go back to the main island, but it will also take a lot of time.

The state of the six clay jars is not good because they have been placed for too long, and most of them have some small cracks on their bodies, which look startled at first glance, and they are worried that they will be scrapped directly without entering the kiln.

After a closer look, I found that it could still be saved, and I adjusted some wet mud to make up for it before moving into the kiln, but fortunately the cracks were very slight, and if it was three or five times more serious, it would definitely be over.

However, it is also a scar to make up, and I am still very worried that this state will not succeed in the end, and the plan to make ice from three clay jars in the cellar may be greatly delayed!

But I'm afraid it's useless, you always have to go through it to get a conclusion, and the sooner you get the results, the sooner you can make a remedy.

Of course, when the serious firing is always with a nervous mentality, the heart is empty, but the state of the clay is very worrying, so people do not have much confidence.

The process of firing the kiln is no different, and the time and technique are no different.

But the result of firing is very surprising, four of the six clay jars have no major problems, a little flaw does not matter, can be used normally!

It is a miracle that the success rate can reach 60% in the case of defective clay billets......

This should be the most successful firing of pottery pots in recent years, and it may also be the largest number of batches, especially for large containers, which have always had a low success rate.

The number of clay jars directly affects the number of large containers I have, and their success has made it estimated that there will be no shortage of large containers in the next two or three years, and the gap in ice containers in the cellar has also been filled.

......

Two of them were moved into the cellar, and after a few hours of saltpeter and water, ice cubes were formed, which lowered the temperature of the whole cellar to only five or six degrees, and when they first entered, they were shivering.

Compared to the 30-degree temperature outside, it was like a dream, so I also fell in love with the cellar, and from time to time I could be seen burrowing into the heat to escape the heat, and I believe that such scenes will be more common in the next few months!

The summer heat is not merciless, the temperature is getting higher and higher, but fortunately there is a cellar now.

At this time of the year, I am afraid that I have been soaking in the sea for a long time, fishing for marine fish and seafood, but since being bitten by a shark, I have basically stopped going to sea because I am worried about the threat in the sea.

The boat is also used very infrequently, and I may not be able to go to sea a few times a year if I don't have anything to do, but when it comes to boats, I almost forgot one important thing!

The linen sail that had been woven for almost half a month could not be forgotten, and although the frequency of going to sea with the boat at this stage was very low, it was necessary to keep it functionally intact.

Just because you don't go to sea doesn't mean you won't, and sailing in the sea without sails is a nightmare for me!

After such a long delay, today I am going to load the newly made sails on the ship, in addition to verifying whether half a month's hard work is worth it, and I also plan to go to sea to see.

Although there will be a certain risk in going to sea, and the process is not easy, there is still a trace of nostalgia after not going to the sea for a long time, just like an old driver who has not driven a car for too long.

The ship parked in the bay was still floating quietly on the water, like a chariot waiting for me to drive, and if it didn't move, it would speed through the raging expanse of the ocean......

Unlike in the past, the installation of the sails required some effort, starting with the digging of a large hole in the middle of the ship.

Then a pillar with a height of almost three meters is fixed to the ship, and then the sails can be loaded onto the ship and start its sailing journey!

......

It is undeniable that the sail made of linen is certainly not as light as the very light plastic sheeting, not only is it heavier, but the small gap between it is also somewhat flawed, at least five percent less effective than the original plastic sheeting.

After spending three or five hours to complete all the work, there seemed to be no reason to delay, so in order to verify its actual ability, it went straight to sea.

Because it's only at sea that you can get a thorough idea of its performance, but I'm sure it should perform well!

Five, ten, twenty minutes, after twenty minutes of sailing, there are about two kilometers from the shore.

The reason for this clear estimate is that I am sailing towards the main island, but I am not ready to go to the main island, at this time it is just a test, and I don't even have a bottle of water or a knife with me, which is really insecure, even if it is a desert island that I have lived on for several years!

The wind was normal today, and I didn't raise the sails until I had reached two kilometres into the sea, because there was only a relatively strong wind at this time, and there was no wind at all.

I was still driving straight towards the main island, and only then could I estimate the accurate data, and I knew the distance between the two islands dozens of times!

Although I haven't sailed for a long time, and the number of times I have been out to sea after moving to Crocodile Island completely is pitiful, the skill of driving the boat has not been forgotten, and the journey is smooth, as long as the weather does not cause any demon moths, there should be no problems with driving.

After another hour of driving, it was actually very close to the main island, only about three or five kilometers, and it only took another twenty or thirty minutes to climb there.

But I turned around and sailed back, the purpose has been achieved, and I am very satisfied with the boat's ability and speed!

I can't really know the exact number, but the data I get when I combine the position of the sun and the distance traveled is that it traveled about five knots in one kilometer, which is about nine kilometers.

......

The sails must have been worse than the previous ones, almost one-fifth less effective, but these reduced figures were made up for by the ship.

First of all, the size of the ship is slightly smaller than that of the previous ship, the line shape is also smoother, and the canvas area is about half a square meter larger than before.

At this time, I regretted that I didn't bring my weapons with me, otherwise I could have stopped by the island to carry a boatload of clay back, after all, it was already very close to the main island, and it would have taken an extra hour or two, but unfortunately I didn't think so much about it before leaving.

It's undoubtedly nice to get the answer you want, and I'm always worried that I'll make a half-failed product that doesn't work well, so it's not cost-effective to spend half a month making it!

The results were much better than I expected, even if they were not as good as the original plastic sheeting, they barely achieved its 90% effect, and as the size of the boat decreased, the gap was not large.

It's much easier for me than paddling by hand, and the effort saved by going out to sea is more than enough to move bricks for half a day, thank goodness......

As I spend more time on the island, my previous skills deteriorate, especially many modern technologies that are almost completely forgotten, such as giving me a mobile phone, which may not be as attractive as it was at the beginning.

This is the price, and the result is an improvement in various construction and crafting techniques, and it is obvious that the success rate of doing various things is getting higher and higher, especially all kinds of handmade items.

After hesitating at sea for a while, they began to return, and the answer they wanted was already obtained, and there was no need to stay in the sea anymore, and the sea was not safe at all.

Although there are a lot of fish swimming on the bottom of the sea, and the colorful ones are very pleasant to look at, unfortunately, the dangerous activities of swimming and catching fish in the sea are no longer suitable for me!

There is a new ship and a new sail, but it can't change the reality that the frequency of going to sea will be very low in the future, and it is still more secure on land.

......

All the construction of the cellar was completed and put into service, and the sails were successfully tested to bring the ship to full condition again, and the whole person breathed a sigh of relief.

The next job is to fire out the bricks made a long time ago, more than a thousand bricks do not know how long they have been placed, intermittently in the production, each time they do not do much, it is rare to find time to make one or two hundred pieces, it is estimated that the earliest batch of half a year has it.

Brick is not the same as clay jar, even if there are some cracks or even cracks after drying, it doesn't matter much, after the house is built, its use is mainly played in other aspects, and the possibility of using it to build a house is almost none.

After about two days of firing, and nearly five days before and after the kiln loading and kiln out, the result is not bad, except for one or two hundred pieces of everything else is intact.

The burned bricks are not idle, although they have not been fired in a hurry, but since they are burned, they are very useful!

First of all, the steps and caves of the cellar need to be paved with a layer of bricks, and before because of the insufficient quantity, only the inside of the cellar was paved, and the steps and caves were missing, and this time it took three or four hundred pieces to make up for them all.

The remaining more than 1,000 pieces, in addition to 300 pieces for emergency use, the remaining 800 pieces were all paved on the drying field on the surface of the house, so that the drying field that was originally only more than 30 square meters was expanded to nearly 60 square meters.

It's still far from the 100 square meters I imagined, but I probably won't be making bricks anymore in the near future, and 60 square meters almost doubles the drying area, which is more than enough for the current conditions!

After the bricks are burned and disposed of, the things that follow are not so urgent, at least they will no longer be forced to complete a certain job like in previous years, and what they want to do and what they don't want to do depends on their mood.

Recently, I was in a general mood, I planned to be lazy and rest for a few days, after the rainy season, I was busy for half a month, and the day was about to enter July, and the field was overgrown with weeds, and it was time to hoe the grass, otherwise the crop yield in the field would be affected!
