Volume 2 Chapter 173 Fortify the Cellar
As soon as I entered the cellar, I didn't feel very good, I was used to the sunny outside, and it was somewhat uncomfortable to return to the dark cave in the dark floor that I hadn't seen for nearly a month, and there was a feeling of ice and fire.
The smell inside is not as good as the outside, there is some musty smell, but this should be a common problem in semi-enclosed spaces, and the current conditions are not likely to improve!
First of all, in terms of temperature, the temperature in the cellar is much cooler than the outside close to 30 degrees, and it is estimated that it hovers around 20 degrees.
This is the result of the cellar not being sealed, and the temperature may have been lower if the door had been closed before.
The first to be inspected was the upper cave, which was relatively damp due to direct contact with the air outside, but fortunately there was no water on the ground and no collapse.
The further down you go, the cooler it becomes, and the corner is only about fifteen degrees, but surprisingly, the humidity is not too obvious.
There is no collapse in the large space on the lower floor, and it is completely normal for a few fist-sized pieces of dirt to fall, after all, the top is still uneven, and it will take some time to finish the details!
One of the walls was a bit more damp, with slight water seepage, but it wasn't serious.
Generally speaking, the cellar is qualified, and the reason for the water seepage is that the rainy season is too long, and this phenomenon should not occur in normal weather.
Second, the degree of water seepage is not serious, and the proportion of the total area is also low, and there is no problem at all and it is unlikely, it only exists in dreams, as long as it can be solved, it is not a big problem!
Later, you can dig a small pit in the lower part of it to prevent water accumulation during water seepage, as long as it does not come into the rainy season.
I'm happy with this outcome, it's pretty much the best, and I'm even mentally prepared for failure.
It's not an exaggeration to think of wells, but if you think of a well, you will find that water will infiltrate the soil, causing water seepage, especially after many days of rain, which may turn it into a water curtain hole.
The rainy season for 20 days in a row really made me feel less confident that it would stay dry inside, and the result was good, much better than I expected!
......
In addition, the clay jar that was tested in the cellar also had results, and the ice that had condensed into almost all the water in the clay jar turned into clear water after more than 20 days.
It is proved that saltpeter does not react with water, and can maintain the form of ice all the time, and when its effect is weakened, the natural ice will gradually turn into water.
Of course, the luxury is to hope that it can remain in the state of ice all the time, and it is expected that it can be returned into water, after all, any substance has the ability to decline!
The good thing is that the saltpeter in the clay jar continues to play a role, and the temperature after the ice is turned into water is still much lower than that of room temperature water, about five degrees lower.
After a few stirring and waiting for half an hour, the water in it dropped by two degrees, and the results showed that the time to change saltpeter in the cellar at a low temperature was also measured.
Under normal temperature, saltpeter may be changed once a month or so, and it will take about 150 catties in a clay jar, and if you put three clay jars, it will be 450 catties, and it can be transported within a day.
Even in the summer, it can be kept at 20 days, the frequency is acceptable, and about 500 catties of saltpeter can be transported home within a day, not to mention the plan of transportation has also been put on the agenda!
The performance of the cellar is very good, and it is naturally qualified, and the process and results of ice making are not bad, so the next step is to continue to complete the renovation of the cellar and put it into use.
Being able to use it a day earlier can also save me some more losses, especially in the hot summer, and I will throw away many things because they deteriorate too quickly.
The renovation is mainly reflected in two aspects, one is to treat the corners and corners of the cellar to make it more regular, and the top and walls should be trimmed and leveled, not as potholed as now!
The floor is also covered with a layer of bricks, which not only makes the ground smoother, but also does not look muddy when it is wet.
The second is to saw some planks out and use some stumps to line the top of the cellar to add support to the overhanging top, otherwise I will be afraid that the dirt on the top will collapse like the cave at the beginning!
......
At the beginning, the cave was only one or two meters deep, and there was not much soil that fell, so I could still climb out, but here is in the depths of the cave, if the cave entrance is blocked, it will really be buried alive, and the oxygen will be exhausted within ten minutes, and I will not even be given the opportunity to dig the soil!
Once bitten by a snake, ten years afraid of the well rope, this is one thing I have been worried about, I have worked very hard until now, I must not easily throw away my life......
The difficulty of retrofitting is not too great, but the problem of lighting is still a problem, and there is no better solution so far.
It is estimated that the means of using paulownia as lighting will be used forever, and it is a big deal to increase the brightness of a few more!
The previous method of making a small fire has now been abandoned by me, after all, the ventilation inside is not good, not only will there be a feeling of smoke and fire, but also may suffocate to death due to lack of oxygen!
Therefore, doing things inside inevitably has the disadvantage of insufficient lighting, which not only limits the fineness of the top of the reinforced cellar, but also reduces some of my patience.
At first, I thought that the top would be leveled and then laid out one by one with wooden stakes standing at each end of the plank, but now it seems too idealistic.
The planks are too thin, so they can't withstand the strength of the collapse, they are easy to decay, and the lights are too dim to affect my operation.
Later, the two sides were chopped off with an axe with a wood diameter of about 20 centimeters to form two planes lined to the top as a support.
Unlike the previous situation, there is always a feeling of darkness when the official excavation is completed, and I don't know if I can succeed, so I just keep digging every day, and naturally I don't have a good mood.
Repairing corners and laying bricks is much more pleasant, not only are they not a very troublesome task, but there is also a wonderful mood in the finishing work......
It's hard to describe, it's like I'm about to finish my homework, and it's like I'm about to go home after a holiday, and I'm always happy in my heart, and I can't help but hum a song!
......
The bricks on the ground are a few hundred leftovers from before, but fortunately, the area of the cellar is only more than ten square meters, which is barely enough.
The more than 1,000 bricks that had been made intermittently before had actually reached the time of firing, but they were delayed because they had been busy and deliberately shirked, and they had to be put on the agenda after they were used up this time.
After the trimmed ground was paved with a layer of bricks, the grade came up in an instant, and even the originally somewhat dark space was brightened up a little under the background of the bricks.
Of course, this is also due to the wood, and the white wood has also increased some brightness, and if the brightness of the two paulownia trees was only twenty in the past, now it is at least thirty.
Of course, the disadvantages are also obvious, the space is a little messy with the wood, and the original smooth and flat top and surrounding are quite pleasing to the eye, but the appearance of the wood has fallen a lot after the wood.
If it weren't for the fact that my purpose had been achieved functionally, I wouldn't have had the heart to toss anymore, and I would have liked to tear it down and rebuild it!
Finally, several one-meter-high pillars were erected in the surrounding areas to place the paulownia that was lit each time, and the renovation of the cellar was successfully completed.
Compared with the previous more than a month of digging the cellar, the finishing work is not complicated, and it only takes a week to finish the work, which means that the cellar can be put into use.
The evaluation of it is still very positive, from the structural point of view, the cellar with the spiral staircase is naturally quite high-end atmosphere, and the ability to cool and keep fresh is also quite good!
What I didn't expect was that I actually found saltpeter before, which could be lowered by one level on the basis of more than ten degrees of temperature removal from the outside, which was beyond my expectations, and also amplified the role of the cellar and made it more powerful......
The only thing I regret may be the way of lighting, and this obvious lack of clarity is really unsolvable at the moment, and I feel deeply powerless.
Kiriko's weak ability is disgusting, but its discovery at least solves the lighting problem, and it seems that there is nothing to be counted!
Fortunately, dissatisfaction with the lighting does not affect the ability of the cellar, which is outstanding.
......
The cellar can be used for the first time, naturally can not be idle, hard and hard, test and test, and then naturally it is the time to play its role.
I started to move some of the perishable bottles and cans and some vegetables in the room, especially cured meat, dried fish, dried sweet potatoes, etc., but corn and peanuts were not used.
About half of the bottles and jars that were originally in the room were moved into the cellar, and the remaining half were still in the room, and most of them did not need to be kept at low temperatures.
Another reason was that I didn't want to put all my eggs in one basket, and if I was unlucky enough to explode and the cellar suddenly collapsed one day, I would be miserable if I put all the food in it.
When the time comes, I am afraid that I will have to go back to the pre-liberation period overnight, living a day of fishing and waiting for the crops to be harvested, and I don't want to.
Although this probability is less than 1 in 10,000, it is always good to have multiple hearts, not to mention corn and peanuts!
The second and third rooms, which were still slightly crowded, suddenly looked empty because they were missing half of the containers, and it seemed that the rooms were still bigger, and the more spacious space made the mood better.
It's just a pity that the cellar started relatively late, and it would be nice if it could be dug up a few months in advance, and the sweet potatoes harvested in winter would not have to worry about preservation.
Not to mention that it is stored for half a year and a year, but there is no problem with saving it for two or three months, which means that in June now, you may be able to eat sweet potatoes, and you feel delicious when you think about it.
Of course, don't be discouraged, you can use it after the sweet potato harvest in a few months, and you can also use it to store the potatoes and carrots harvested next month, anyway, there are many places to play!
