(35) Ankylosing spondylitis
Ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic connective tissue disease that mainly affects the spine and large joints of the limbs, and is characterized by fibrosis, ossification and joint ankylosis of the fibrous ring of the intervertebral disc and its vicinity. This disease is more common in young men, and it is called bone paralysis in traditional Chinese medicine.
Early symptoms are lower back pain and lumbosacral stiffness, which worsens at night, is more pronounced in the early morning, and lessens with activity. If the disease develops, it will invade the thoracic vertebrae upward, so that the range of thoracic motion will be significantly reduced, and chest pain, chest tightness, and intercostal neuralgia may occur; If it progresses upward, the sternoclavicular joint and cervical spine are affected, and the flexion, extension, and rotational motion of the head are limited.
