(34) Third lumbar transverse process syndrome
It is common. Cumulative strain, trauma is the main cause. Because the transverse process of the third lumbar vertebra is the longest in the lumbar vertebrae, it is prone to strain, trauma, and then aseptic inflammation, local edema, tissue degeneration, adhesions, etc. Most of the patients are young and middle-aged, and unilateral disease is more common, and manual workers are prone to this disease.
The patient has pain at the transverse process of the third lumbar vertebrae, and swelling may occur locally. Hip pain on the affected side, thigh pain, and lumbar dyskinesia may also occur, with lateral flexion dyskinesia on the unaffected side being the most obvious.
1. Methods and steps
See Figure 2-2-34.
Figure 2-2-34 Tuina massage for transverse process syndrome of the third lumbar vertebrae
(1) The patient is in the prone position, the surgeon is located on the left side of the patient, and the outer edge of the transverse process of the third lumbar vertebra is treated with the palm root of the right hand on the affected part of the patient's waist for 3~5 minutes, and the strength is appropriate to be gentle, see this figure (1).
(2) The surgeon rubs the spinous process of the patient's lumbar vertebrae with the fingertips of the index, middle and ring fingers of both hands for 3~5 minutes, focusing on the affected area, as shown in this figure (2).
(3) The surgeon uses his thumb to rub the patient's hip and ring jumping acupoints. Each acupuncture point continues to be treated for 1~3 minutes, as shown in this figure (3).
(4) The surgeon rubs the patient's legs with his thumb in Futu, Weizhong, and Chengshan acupoints, and continues to treat for 3~5 minutes, see Figure (4).
2. Precautions
(1) The clinical pain points of this disease are often determined, and the above treatment should be carried out after diagnosis.
(2) The treatment should be continued, and rest should be the main focus during the onset and treatment period.
(3) In the process of treatment, the strength of the technique should be both rigid and soft, and the force should not be too large, so as not to cause adverse consequences, and it should not be light and ineffective.
(4) Local warmth should be strengthened, and appropriate waist protection should be worn to protect the waist from damage.
