(2) Ankle sprain

This disease is clinically divided into two categories: varus sprain and valgus sprain, and varus sprain is the most common. Plantar flexion varus tends to injure the lateral ligament; Simple varus can easily damage the calcaneal ligament. In the valgus position, the deltoid ligament is tougher and less likely to be damaged, but the lower tibiofibular ligament can be torn. Suffering from direct external force, in addition to ligament injury, fractures and dislocations are often combined.

Immediately after the injury, the ankle is swollen and painful, unable to walk or can only barely walk, and ecchymosis may appear locally after 2~3 days. In varus sprains, the anterior and inferior lateral malleolus is swollen and tender; When the foot is varus, severe pain occurs in the anterior and lower part of the lateral malleolus. In valgus sprains, the anterior and inferior medial malleolus is swollen and tender; When the foot is turned out, severe pain occurs in the anterior and lower part of the medial malleolus.

1. Methods and steps

(2) You can also push and rub from the ankle joint on the affected side to the fingertip for 3~5 minutes, which can achieve the effect of reducing swelling and relieving pain, see Figure (2).

(3) Use your thumb to rub the patient's Shangqiu, Jiexi, Qiuxu, Kunlun, Taixi, Zusanli and Sanyinjiao acupoints for 5~10 minutes, which can relieve swelling and pain, see Figure (3).

(4) Gently shake the ankle joint on the affected side for 1 minute, see this figure (4).

2. Precautions

(1) Treatment should be carried out 24 hours after a clear diagnosis without fractures.

(2) Patients with severe bruising should not be treated with heavy manipulation, and should be appropriately treated with external drugs.

(3) For patients with acute sprain and contusion, it is advisable to apply ice cubes or cold towels within 24 hours, and hot compresses can be used after 24 hours.

(4) When resting, the affected foot should be appropriately elevated, and after the swelling is reduced, the activity should be appropriately strengthened.
