This is the reason why when you become a Taoist priest, you have to do coolie labor for a few years first, all of which are to temper your temperament and cultivate and accumulate merit and good fortune.

As the saying goes, "God will be in charge of the people, and they must first suffer their minds, work their muscles and bones, and starve their bodies and skins".

When merit and good fortune are not enough, they will exchange their luck and even life and life. Therefore, the practice itself is really important, and I only know how to blindly take, squander, and consume, and I don't know how to accumulate practice, and when the remnants of the ancestors are consumed, we will consume our own blessings.

And orthodox Taoist priests, every day incense, kowtow and even sweep the floor, build temples and statues, exceed, and help all living beings, there are merits in them, and the lost merits will slowly come back, and even become more.

There is a folk saying: merit is not enough to make up for virtue, and virtue is not enough for six relatives. This is a folk saying about the problem of compensation for spells, if you are not strong enough and use a powerful spell, what to compensate, use your accumulated character, that is, your good fortune, if it is not enough, what to do, use your family's good fortune. This is also related to the bearing theory advocated by Daomen.
