Chapter 17: The Withdrawn Heart
Turning a corner, Huang Siyao saw two people on the road in front of herβit was Li Guangfu, the caretaker of the forest farm, and a little girl, who was crying.
"Hey, don't cry, you naughty one." The man roared.
The little girl cried even harder, Si Yao stepped forward, her eyes were shining, Li Guangfu turned around to look at her, nodded lightly, his face turned white with anger.
"What's the matter? What is she crying about? Huang Siyao asked, her brows furrowed, and she was a little angry.
A soft smile, as if mocking, appeared on the man's face. "Well, you'll have to ask her to go." He replied coldly in his dull tongues.
Huang Siyao felt as if she had been slapped in the face by him, and her face changed with anger, and she looked at him with vigor.
"I'm asking you, how do you beat a little girl?" She gasped.
He gave her a military salute and said, "Yes, lady." Then he said in tongues, "But I can't tell you." He had become a soldier-like, unpredictable attitude, and his face was blue with annoyance.
Huang Siyao turned around and went to the child. It was a girl of about ten years old, with a red face and black hair.
"What's the matter, dear? Tell me, what are you crying about? Si Yao asked warmly.
The little girl deliberately cried even harder.
"Alright, alright, stop crying! Tell me how others are bullying you! There was infinite comfort in his voice. At the same time, she felt in her pocket and took out fifty yuan.
"Don't cry!" She bent over the child and said, "Look at what I've given you, you can buy something to eat." β
The little girl was still crying, her eyes looking at the banknotes, and then at her father.
"Okay, okay, tell me what's going on!" Si Yao said and put the money in the child's little hand.
"For the sake of being a cat all the time!" The little girl said.
"Cat, where? My dear. β
After a moment's wait, the hand holding the fifty dollars reached out and pointed to a bush of thorns.
"There!"
Si Yao looked there. Yes, she saw a big black cat with blood on it. Lying there dying.
"Ahh What's going on? Si Yao shouted.
"It's a wild cat, hostess." Lee Kwang-fu said.
He looked at Wang Siyao, a little displeased. Wang Siyao's face turned red, she lost her temper with him just now, this person didn't respect her anymore.
"What's your name?" She kindly asked the child, "Will you tell me your name?" β
The child sniffles; Then he said in a pretentious shriek: "Li Jiao'er." β
"Li Jiao'er! It's a nice name, it's very distinctive. Did you come out with your father? Did he shoot the cat? β
The child looked at her with her brave black eyes, probing her, looking at Huang Siyao, and observing her attitude.
"I was going to stay at home with my grandmother." The girl said.
"Really? But where is your grandma? β
The child raised his arm and pointed down the road: "In the dormitory." β
"In the dorm? Are you going to go back to her? β
Remembering the crying just now, he suddenly cried again: "Yes, I'm going!" β
"Come on, then, shall I take you there?" Shall I take you to your grandmother? So that your dad can do what he's going to do. β
She turned her face to Lee Kwang Fu and said, "This is your girl, isn't it?" β
He saluted. He nodded slightly.
"Shall I take her to the dorm?" Huang Siyao asked.
"Okay, hostess."
He looked back into her eyes, with his calm, inquiring, nonchalan gaze. It's a lonely person. He who only cares about his own business.
Huang Siyao didn't like this little girl, she was spoiled, but she wiped her face for her, took her hand, and the hunter saluted and didn't say anything.
~~~~~
"Morning!" Huang Siyao said.
It's almost a mile to the dormitory. Before she reached the hunter's quarters, she hated the girl too much. The child was as cunning as a monkey, and he was at ease.
The door to the dormitory was open, and the sound inside could be heard. Huang Siyao hesitated, and the child withdrew his hand and ran towards the house.
"Grandma! Grandmother! β
"What, you're back!"
An old woman was at the kitchen and it was a Saturday morning. Dressed in a coarse cloth apron and with a spatula in her hand, she is the cook here.
"Ah, how! She shouted, and when she saw Huang Siyao standing at the door, she hurriedly wiped her face with her arms;
"Good morning!" Huang Siyao said, "She cried, so I brought her back." β
The old woman gave the child a quick glance.
"But, where's your father?"
The girl was holding her grandmother's skirt and grinning.
"He's over there," Mr. Huang said, as he beat a feral cat to death and scared the child. β
"Oh, that shouldn't bother you like that, lady; You're great, but you shouldn't have bothered you like this! β
"It's not too much trouble, it's going to give me a walk." Huang Siyao said with a smile.
"You're so good! You're so nice! Oh, did she cry? I knew they wouldn't be able to go very far. This girl is afraid of him, she is afraid of him. It was as if he were a stranger to her. Utter strangers, this father and daughter. I think they're hard to get along with, and her dad is a grumpy man.
Huang Siyao didn't know what to say.
"Look, grandma!" The child said in a flattering manner.
The old woman looked at the fifty dollars in her child's hand.
"And fifty dollars! Boss, you really shouldn't, you really shouldn't. You see, how good the hostess is to you! You're in luck today! β
Huang Siyao was about to leave them.
"Ah, thank you, hostess! Say thank you, Auntie? - The last sentence is addressed to a child.
"Thank you, Auntie." The child said sharply.
"Good boy!" Huang Siyao said with a smile.
After walking away, I felt glad that I had left them. She thought something strange to the proud man's mother.
When Huang Siyao left, the old woman hurriedly ran to the back of the kitchen and looked at a small mirror. She couldn't help but pause when she saw her face. "Wearing this apron, with a gray face! How much she can't see me! β
