331. The time of disappearance
Church's Diary XVII
Mr. Stone finally woke up. His body was weak, as if he was seriously ill. The doctor advised him to continue the infusion, but he said no, and only asked us for some nutritious porridge to eat.
Ivan and Boris's bodies are almost recovering, especially Boris, who is alive and well. He had a good conversation with Anderson and often went to help him repair the ship.
Not to mention, Boris and Ivan knew the ship's equipment very well, and many problems were fixed in their hands. Anderson secretly told me that these two men must have served in the military, and on the best warships or submarines.
From their mannerisms and Boris's casual remarks, I also knew that they were probably from military backgrounds, but not as accurately as Anderson deduced.
If our guess is correct, it is understandable that they are reluctant to talk about the reasons for their accidents. But when I think about it, I can't help but worry a little, could it be that the tsunami we encountered and the previous aggressiveness really had something to do with the military's actions? And they are the soldiers who were almost killed in military operations?
In the South Pacific, the only country that can theoretically make such a big move is the United States. New Zealand does not have the strength, and Australia will not conduct military experiments so far from the mainland, and this is the sphere of influence of the Americans. But the military behavior of the United States, why did two Russian soldiers appear? What's more, there's an Asian lying over there!
The more I thought about it, the more chaotic and unbelievable it became, there was a strong smell of conspiracy lingering in front of my nose, and I even smelled some great unknowable danger.
It's better to get out of here quickly, and get back to land and everything.
However, before we could adjust our course, we confirmed another terrible thing.
The cause of the incident was a watch that Boris was carrying on his wrist.
At that time, he was blowing the wind on the deck with Anderson, and by the way, he was blowing all kinds of cattle in Haiti. I deliberately asked Anderson to talk to him more so that I could hear a little bit from him.
Boris asked Anderson, guess how many Christmases I've spent at sea?
Anderson laughed and said, "It doesn't matter how many you have, it's still early at Christmas, it's only August, and if you're still on the ship in four months, let's blow the topic again."
Boris looked at Anderson in surprise, then raised his wrist to look at it, patted his watch hard and said, Are you crazy Anderson? Tomorrow is Christmas, tomorrow, you know! Are you fucking drinking sea water and drinking stupid, actually saying it's only August!
Anderson grabbed his wrist, stared at his watch, and then at his own. I saw the look of surprise on Anderson's face froze in the distance.
Then, Anderson nervously ran up to me and grabbed my wrist to look at my watch. I said what's wrong, Anderson? Anderson said you go look at the guy's watch, and the date on his watch is December 24th.
I said how is that possible? But I still asked Boris, who was slowly walking by, for confirmation. He said yes, it's Christmas Eve, shouldn't we relax together?
Scientists' various state-of-the-art electronic watches were broken in the tsunami-plus EMP disaster, but most of my seafarers wore mechanical watches that were waterproof. The calendar on our watch shows that we are still in August. I still have a paper calendar in my captain's room, and I tear one every day. And I have a habit of keeping a diary, and I'm sure I can't get the day wrong.
However, both Boris and Ivan's watches show that it is December and tomorrow is Christmas. Both of them also swore that there would be no mistake with this date.
I don't think they had any reason to lie to us, and it was impossible for them to premeditate and adjust the date of the watch at the same time. And most importantly, the sun in the sky and the temperature at sea do not lie. Although the ocean does not have a large temperature difference between the four seasons like on land, the difference between winter and summer is still clear.
Robbins was silent when he learned the news. He had made such a guess a few days ago, but no one wanted to believe it. He first went to the room of Pardic, who was recuperating from his wounds, closed the door, and the two of them talked for a long time in the room. Later, he called Mrs. Larry again.
I don't know what they're talking about or why it's so mysterious, but I think it must have something to do with the time travel thing, because Pardick is an expert in space physics, and if anyone on the ship can tell the story of this kind of thing, it's probably him.
Moreover, Pardick was seriously injured, and the medical conditions on the ship were limited, especially after many equipment were broken, so he could only rely on primitive means to help him recover from his broken bones, but fortunately his concussion was not serious. With such a serious injury, it stands to reason that he should not be bothered, and Mr. Robbins must have felt that the situation was a bit serious, or that he had thought of something else that he had to ask of Pardic.
But oh my God, what the hell is going on? Why are they so mysterious?
Later, he and Mrs. Larry came out of Pardic's room, and I thought they were going to announce something, but they didn't. They went to Arthur Stone's room together. This time, however, they probably felt that they should not avoid me, the captain, so they greeted me, and said that they wanted to confirm something with Mr. Stone, and invited me to come along.
Ivan and Boris seemed to be at ease with us and followed us nervously. Neither Robbins nor Mrs. Larry stopped it. In this way, other people who wanted to go followed. Alice followed Mrs. Larry every step of the way, and several other scientists followed us closely.
But then I learned why Robbins and Mrs. Larry didn't stop the others from going together, because it was useless to go to as many people as they could. As soon as Mrs. Larry entered, she began to talk to Mr. Stone in incredibly proficient Chinese, and the others simply couldn't understand what they were saying.
During my many years of sailing, I have come into contact with many crew members of different nationalities, including Chinese. So I learned a little bit of Chinese, and I could say common phrases such as "hello, have you eaten, goodbye, fuck", etc., but if you asked me to listen to the conversation between two Chinese, I really couldn't respond at all.
I heard Mrs. Larry speak Chinese as if she were singing, and the only thing I could understand was that she called Stone by his name, although the syllables became a little strange and sounded like "Situ".
Mr. "Situ" always has a warm smile on his face, although it may be due to physical reasons, the smile is lazy, but it has a kind of power that penetrates into people's hearts, so that you can see him as comfortable as bathing in the spring breeze. I saw the light in Alice's eyes, though I was sure she couldn't understand a word.
The conversation didn't last long, and Stone seemed to be unable to hold on, though he remained so graceful that one almost forgot that he was a patient.
Mrs. Larry terminated the conversation, and everyone except Ivan and Boris exited Stone's room. I saw Mrs. Larry and Robbins' faces change, and I didn't know what was really going on.
I think it must be serious. Mr. Robbins didn't explain anything to me, except to ask for a full speed ahead at once to find land as soon as possible.
