Text: Chapter XVI
Steven clutched the back of his head and climbed up from between the dresser and the wall. "Whose house am I sleeping in?" He looked around suspiciously, "Linda? I mean, Malisa? When he saw the red-glowing mirror on the dresser, he suddenly jumped back and threw two punches in front of him in quick succession.
Two clouds of blue light flew out, shattering the mirror on the dresser.
"Wait," Steven scratched his head, "Didn't I win a long time ago?" I'm and, what's coming? He walked towards the door of the dance studio. A fist-sized ball of blue light emerged and followed him.
"Hey, Dylan," Steven reached for his ear, but the communicator pinned to his ear was now half left, "Beautiful." He took off his smashed communicator and threw it on the ground.
The vestibule of the house was almost the same as when everyone left. The only thing that was slightly different was that the kitchen door was open, and a scarecrow stood in front of it.
"I remember you." Steven looked at the scarecrow, "Lanny! Where did you die?! He shouted instead.
No one, or any voice, responded to Steven's words.
"Well, I don't want to be here alone." Steven turned his head and prepared to walk towards the main entrance of the lonely house, "Ah! I'm you! ”
The scarecrow who had left Steven's sight appeared in front of the main entrance of the lonely house again, and Steven, who had just taken a step, burst into a foul language incoherently.
"How did I forget about this?" Steven stared at the scarecrow and stepped forward, trying to push away the opponent's arm that was blocking the door.
The sharpened arm lifted the entire scarecrow, spun around, and pointed the tip at Steven's neck.
Steven reflexively jumped back and threw two punches in quick succession.
The two clouds of blue light suddenly stopped as they were about to make contact with the scarecrow, and then disappeared at the same time.
"Again?!" Steven exclaimed.
The scarecrow followed Steven's example and jumped backwards. This time, a blue glow appeared in front of the scarecrow, and then flew towards Steven's location.
Steven opened the barrier. The light struck him out along with the barrier, causing him to fall on the half of the couch in the fireplace.
Another cloud of blue light flew from the same position.
Steven quickly got up, dodged to the side, and then went into the kitchen.
Unlike the vestibule, the kitchen is filled with a thick mist.
Steven turned around to determine the location of the scarecrow, but one of his legs was lifted by something invisible, causing him to fall to the ground. His face was bumped into a flat, hard object. He got up and saw the word "welcome" printed on the doormat.
Bang! Bang!
Something was pounding on the ground continuously. The sound of the crash approached Steven from far and near.
The thick fog blocked Steven's vision, allowing him to see only a white expanse.
Bang!
The last impact occurred at Steven's feet. In the next second, a sharpened wooden stick pierced through the fog and stabbed down on Steven. And with the wooden stick breaking out of the thick fog, it was the side face of the scarecrow.
Steven hurriedly rolled over and threw himself through the back door of the open lonely house.
Steven, who thought he was going to sink into the mud, fell on the hard ground. He looked back into the kitchen and saw a wall emerge from the door, connecting with other existing walls and locking him up in the area he was.
The criss-crossing walls divide the passages and close to the roof to create an enclosed labyrinth.
The sound of the drizzling rain was kept out.
The environment in the labyrinth gives a sense of detachment from reality. The floor, walls, and roof are all hard and flat, but the air smells of rain-soaked earth. There is no lighting in the labyrinth, but the walls emit a faint light on their own, creating a dark and terrifying atmosphere.
Steven pressed a hand against the wall where it was last generated. A blue glow emanated from this hand.
The blue glow grew brighter and brighter, and Steven had to close his eyes. The walls covered in light were unaffected, not even the slightest blur.
"Damn it!" Steven stopped indulging and cursed in a low voice.
"Sorry to interrupt," a voice that sounded a lot like Dylan came into Steven's ear, "something is approaching you." ”
Steven reached for the communicator, but shivered at it. "! Don't talk into my ear! He exclaimed, reaching out and waving a few times at the sides of his head.
Squeak –
There was an annoying noise in the passage to Steven's left. It sounded like a fingernail running across a blackboard, or the head of a fork across the surface of a plate.
Steven turned his head to look, but there was nothing in the dimly lit passageway.
Squeak –
The annoying sound came closer.
Steven looked around, then turned and ran into the other side of the passageway.
Squeak, squeak, squeak......
The annoying sound suddenly became rapid. At the same time, there was the sound of something heavy running.
Judging by the sound, whatever it was running, it was closing the distance to Steven, which also made the latter panic and speed up his pace.
The limitation of vision made Steven turn his head back and forth. His wheezing echoed through the walls, making him feel like someone was following him.
As Steven's footsteps became slower and slower, he still walked into a dead end in a bit of panic. He leaned against the wall at the end, then bent down and put his hands on his knees.
The sound of chasing Steven suddenly stopped.
Steven controlled his wheezing and listened to the movement around him. At that moment, the wall against which his ass was resting suddenly lost its presence. This caused him to fall backwards and sit on the ground.
"It's like, I know what's going to happen next." Steven muttered, turning his head to look at where the wall had been.
A tall, thin humanoid monster appears in Steven's field of vision. It resembles a patient suffering from gigantism and rickets at the same time, with its arched back almost touching the roof of the labyrinth. Its limbs are similar to those of a normal person, but much more elongated. Like the surrounding walls, it also emits a faint glow.
The monster bent down and hung its head in front of Steven. It has no lips, and its jagged teeth are exposed. Where it was supposed to have a snout, it caved out, revealing a dark hole. Four of them, like charred flesh, have two forks that occupy the place where the eyes are.
Two tentacles-like objects stretched out from the monster's waist and waved wildly in the air. The two tentacles were about the thickness of a thumb and were covered with seemingly hard barbs. Whenever the barbs hit the wall, they made a series of annoying sounds.
"Uh-huh!" Steven coughed, then moved his head to the side defrequently.
A tentacle slammed in, stabbing Steven's head where it had been.
Steven raised an eyebrow and pointed behind the humanoid monster.
Two planes glowing blue spawned in mid-air, then collided with each other with a loud bang.
The humanoid monster immediately turned around and waved its tentacles, easily shattering the two planes.
Steven took the opportunity to run the way he came, but before he could take a few steps, the sound of his footsteps caught the monster's attention again.
The monster leaned down, pressed its hands to the ground, and quickly crawled a few steps, then lunged forward and pounced on Steven.
A cloud of blue light bounced Steven to the side, but his calf was swept by the monster's tentacles. His pants were cut directly, and a shallow wound was cut on the outside of his calf.
The monster screamed and spun around, causing the two tentacles to wave wildly in midair.
Steven leaned down, pressed one hand against the bleeding wound, and pointed the other to the ground at a nearby fork in the road.
Two balls of blue light in the shape of the soles of his feet appeared where Steven was pointing, and then alternately moved along the fork in the road, slapping a series of footsteps on the ground.
The humanoid monster immediately caught up. The light in the shape of the soles of the feet sped up, leading the opponent into the depths of the labyrinth.
As far as Steven could see, a white light slightly brighter than the surrounding walls caught his attention. He tore off the torn leg of his trousers, wrapped it around the wound on his calf, and lowered his footsteps and rubbed towards the white light.
What shines is a tombstone. The name Donald Doon is engraved on the stele.
Unlike the rest of the labyrinth, the ground near the tombstone is covered with real dirt. When Steven stopped a few steps away from the tombstone, the dirt in front of the tombstone was pushed from the inside.
"It's hard to play, but it's such an old-fashioned bridge." Steven scoffed, but his tone was far less relaxed than usual.
A humanoid thing crawled out of the dirt. However, contrary to Steven's thoughts, what appeared was not Donald's corpse, but the scarecrow he had already seen many times.
Steven frowned slightly.
At that moment, a stiff hand rested on Steven's shoulder.
The sudden contact frightened Steven into jumping backwards, but his injured calf caused him to fall straight to the ground.
"Damn, don't play according to the routine." Steven muttered and staggered to his feet.
A man with a drooping head shuffled over to Steven. He was dressed in a maintenance man's outfit with a badge with 'Donald' pinned to the underside of his collar. He has a visible strangulation mark on his neck, and several corpse spots can be seen on the exposed part of his arm.
The man's limbs appear to be very uncoordinated. Every muscle in him seemed to be twitching violently.
"Mr. Doon." Steven whispered.
"Yes." The man jerked his head up, so that his swollen and blue face was facing Steven.
"My mother! Can you not be scary! Steven tilted his head and looked away, "Well, I know I'm in a bad situation, and that leaves me with little position to speak." Still, I want to advise you that you can't escape all this. Guys from the military also came. If you're not mistaken, they've got a consciousness assimilator for you. In contrast, the Guild's policy is actually much more lenient, if you are willing to cooperate. ”
The man lowered his head again and paced in front of Steven.
"You understand every word I say, don't you?" Steven continued, "And, of course, what a 'guild' is. He glanced at the scarecrow, "That 'red light, green light' is now this labyrinth - complex environments, terrifying creatures for hunting, plus the mechanics of sound localization - you want to create 'Ferma space'." It is impossible for an ordinary spirit to do such a thing. If I'm not mistaken, the guild also has labs at the university in the small town. Probably, part of you escaped from there, and then happened to merge with Donald's post-death consciousness. ”
"It's not like that." The man paused and said in a hoarse voice, "Still, it doesn't matter. ”
Steven clenched his fists, and a blue glow emerged. "Okay, let's do it. You give me a good look, it won't be as easy as you think. ”
"What do you think," said the man, "what will happen next?" ”
"Oh my God, why so much nonsense!" Steven touched his head, "Do you know how villains usually die?!" ”
"You're not going to die." The man said, "How is it possible, to kill you." Your consciousness is so irresistible. ”
"Uh-what?!" Steven blinked, then took a step back, "You're not going to be ...... Tell me about your sexuality, right? ”
"You're hurt." "And, I'm worried about not being able to control the situation." In this case, your consciousness will be expressed negatively. That's exactly what I wanted. He slowly raised a hand, "Here, give you a present, my new Kelly." ”
A white ball of light emerged from Steven's side. It fluttered a few times in the air, emitting a string of crisp bell tones.
A sudden chirp rang from the depths of the labyrinth.
Squeak - squeak -
Immediately afterward, the sound of tentacles scratching the walls was also heard.
Steven hurriedly threw a punch that scattered the white light.
However, an identical ball of light immediately appeared beside Steven, emitting a bell sound again.
"Now," said the man, "run." ”
