Chapter 15
"I really ask," Lannie pushed Steven away and straightened her shirt, "what the hell are you doing?" β
This room should be the master bedroom of the house.
In addition to a double bed, there is also a locker and a writing desk. There is a red toolbox on the ground next to the locker. The chest can be opened up and down from the middle of the front, but it is locked by a small metal lock. Above the desk there is the only window in the room. A heavy curtain was rudely pulled down and placed in a corner of the desk very casually.
In addition to that, there was one, no, a lot of exactly the same thing in the room. It's just that Lannie, who is being angry with Steven, hasn't noticed them yet.
Steven stood with his back to Lannie in front of the closed door. The unusually dazzling blue ball of light was still suspended between the two of them.
On the inside of the door, at the same height as Steven's forehead, was nailed a long nail the thickness of a little finger. A hemp rope hung from the nail, one end of which was tied to the nail, and the other end was tied into a loop.
"There's something," Steven whispered, "in, in bed." "He didn't speak very coherently.
Lannie subconsciously glanced at the double bed.
In the middle of the bed is a puppet. The workmanship of the puppet is quite fine, and the details of the whole body are also rich. It wears red dancing shoes, two separate pieces of white cloth sewn into stockings that cling to its legs. A brown skirt was wide and fluffy, with a delicate button sewn into each of the straps that extended from the hem. Its mouth is small and chic, and the extra red thread looks like lipstick. The fly in the ointment is only its eyes β or rather, no eyes at all. Instead, there are two crosses made up of four black line segments.
The puppet sat upright, head facing the bedroom door.
Dazzling blue balls of light illuminated almost every corner of the room.
Lannie then discovered that there were many puppets in different parts of the roomβon the windowsill, on the lockers, under the desks. The puppets were all dressed as dancers and dressed in basically the same costume, but slightly different in size, and did not look like mass-produced goods.
Lanny turned back to Steven's back. "I can't believe it," she whispered, "and I didn't react until now." β
The blue ball of light gradually dimmed.
Without the dazzling blue light, Steven, who had his back to Lanny, finally revealed his full picture, and the faint light he emitted became much more obvious.
Suddenly, Steven's head spun one hundred and eighty degrees and turned his face at Lanny, whose upper limbs did not move at all, still facing the door. The dolls in the room also turned their heads at the same time, and all of their faces turned towards Lannie's location.
"Looks like the real Steven is still lying on the ground." Lannie held up a hand. An orange glow emerged in this hand.
Steven, who was watching Lanny, raised the corners of his mouth, swung his arms back, and took a few steps backwards towards Lanny.
"Mr. Doon," said Lannie, "you should be able to hear me. β
Steven nodded. The mechanical movements made him look extremely weird.
"I understand that so much has happened today," Lannie continued, "and we are here to help you. β
"It's late." A hoarse voice came from where Steven was.
"For some things, I think so." Sludge responded, "It seems that something happened to you and your wife long before today. The inside and outside of the house were left unattended for a long time, and all the curtains were removed. Now, there are more of these dolls. I don't know how to piece it all together, and I can't figure out how it relates to the schoolgirl you killed. Naturally, we have no power to change what has already passed. What I can do at the moment is to help you change your form of existence. Becoming a spirit after death is an extremely unexpected and painful thing. We can alleviate your pain. β
"By ......," said a hoarse voice, "the way to kill me." β
"Nope." Lannie responded, "On the contrary, if you cooperate, we won't hurt you anymore, we'll just move you to something more reasonable." Now that you have a complete mind and keep your memories alive, we will even arrange for you to meet your wife. Remember her, Kylie, she's in this house too, and if you continue like this, you're likely to hurt her. β
"Kelly, very helpful." The husky voice said, "And you, too, will help." β
"That's right." Lanny said.
In Lanny's peripheral vision, something seemed to be missing from the bed.
Lannie pursed her lips. "Looks like I'm just talking nonsense."
A doll suddenly sprang out from the side and hugged Lannie's orange-glowing hand. The other dolls flew over as well, trying to control Lannie's surroundings.
Lannie swung left and right as she built a barrier around herself.
A few more dolls crawled out from under the bed. They leap high and shatter Lannie's barrier with their little feet in red dancing shoes. The rest of the dolls gathered together, causing Lannie to move more and more slowly.
The bedroom door slammed inward.
Pushed by the doll, Lanny stumbled out of the house. As she passed the door, the hemp rope that was tied to the inside of the door went around the top of the door and hung the ring at the other end over Lannie's head. The dolls held Lanny at the same time, lifting her off the ground and against the door panel. The loops of the hemp rope immediately wrapped around Lannie's neck and then shrunk.
Lannie kicked her dangling feet as her hands were pressed against the door by a couple of puppets. With some difficulty, she reached out a finger and scratched it across the door.
An orange beam of light slashed across Lanny's head, slicing the twine. The beam spun in a circle, flew in front of Lanny, and burst into a blinding light.
The dolls detach from Lanny, causing her to fall back to the ground.
Lannie jumped out of the bedroom, threw herself down the hallway, and then immediately turned around and raised her hands up at the bedroom.
A wide barrier was created between Lanny and her bedroom.
The dolls rose from the ground one by one and flocked to Lanny again. They slammed into the barrier one after the other, causing it to dim little by little.
On the bracelet that Lannie was wearing, the yellow percentage number was drastically dropping, and the dots of light that reflected it were flickering faster and faster.
Behind the doll, Steven, with his head twisted backwards, twisted his head back to the front and walked over to Lannie. It pushed the doll in its way, stopped one step from the barrier, and raised a hand.
A triangular blade of light stabbed straight out of Steven's raised hand, piercing through a doll's body and into the barrier Lannie had created.
The barrier collapsed in an instant. The dolls rushed to Lannie at once, pushing her towards the window in the hallway.
A thin barrier was created behind Lannie, preventing her from a direct impact on the windowpane. She flew out of the window and fell on the balcony, breaking the pole of the parasol. Several shards of glass grazed her body, cutting several scratches on her forearms.
Radiating light, Steven rushed to the balcony and stabbed the blade of light in his hand at Lannie, who was pressed to the ground by the dolls.
At this moment, another blue blade of light of the same shape flew down from the sky and pierced Steven's body impartially. The light that made up the body diffused from the stabbed area and disappeared into the black rain.
As Steven disappeared, the dolls that were pressing on Lannie also lost their strength and rolled to the side on their stomachs.
In the direction of the second blade, Emilia spun around in mid-air, withdrew the purple band of light thrown towards the balcony in her hand, and threw it to the ground directly below her.
The band of light quickly expanded into a ball of light, which was sunken down at the right time, catching Emilia as she fell.
Before Lanny could strike up a conversation with Emilia, palm-sized leaves swirled in a stream of air, forming a hemispherical surface that enveloped Emilia.
"Let's go!"
A female voice reached Lanny's ears.
Lannie followed the prestige and saw Kelly standing in the hallway on the second floor.
"Get out of here!" Kelly said anxiously, "While you still have a chance." She hurried around, walked down the hallway, and ran upstairs.
"You think I don't want to." Lanny got up, shook her head, and said, "Really, then you might as well not run." She held on to the window frame, slipped through the shattered window, and walked up the staircase to the third floor.
