Chapter 14: The Mist

"Lord Aven, my daughter ran away with some of the town's children to the eastern outskirts of Curry yesterday evening. He said he was going on an expedition, but he hasn't come back yet!" said Bard with an anxious expression.

"What about the other kids?" Evan shook his head, signaling to Mayor Mare not to panic.

"I've come back safely, and when I asked them last night, I didn't dare to say anything, I guess something happened!" the beard on the mayor's lips shook violently.

"Don't worry, tell someone where they went last night. Evan whispered.

According to several of the children, they appeared to have run near the cemetery. Speaking of this, Bard's tone changed significantly, and there was a hint of fear in his eyes.

In the early days of the empire, the Military Aircraft Department ordered a large-scale recruitment of soldiers. A group of hot-blooded young people in the town joined the army and went to the battlefield for the supreme glory.

However, after several years of fighting, very few people returned alive from the north. The sacrifice of thousands of young lives was only exchanged for a pitiful pension for the Empire.

Brought back to the library was a cold body.

The grief-stricken townsfolk vow to resist the war in the north in order to prevent their descendants from dying on the battlefield, and eventually became the same peacemaker as Willow.

The cemetery in the north of the town is the place where the bones of those brave soldiers who died bravely are buried. However, after nearly 100 years have passed, that bloody history has gradually been forgotten.

It is rumored that the town has become a breeding ground for ghosts, and when night falls, the sound of ghosts crying can be heard.

The surrounding land has become barren and weeds have grown wildly, and now people subconsciously take a detour when they pass through the entrance to the cemetery.

"One guessed they might have strayed into the graveyard and Ruth and her friends got separated. Bard nodded in agreement.

"If it is really such a trouble, it will be a big trouble, Ruth is alone in the cemetery, even if the rumors are false, the situation is not optimistic. Evan bowed his head and muttered.

"I heard that Lord Evan had come to Curry this morning, so I immediately thought of asking you for help. Bard pinned his only hope on the court magician at the moment.

"Someone just received a mission from the palace yesterday, and it was very tricky, so I was afraid that I would have to leave for Shadow Island immediately. Evan was embarrassed.

"What then! The soldiers of the town did not dare to approach the cemetery, for fear that they would be cursed by the undead. There was a clear hint of desperation in Bard's tone.

"Someone's four students are staying at the Starlight Inn right now, you can entrust this matter to them, and most importantly, they haven't heard of this rumor, there's only so much someone can do. Before he could finish speaking, Aven's figure turned into a wisp of fresh air and disappeared in front of Bard's eyes.

Bard stood in place for a few seconds before he suddenly reacted and shouted at the guards at the door, "Send someone to the Starlight Inn and invite Lord Aven's students!"

——

At this time, there were still only four people in the inn, and Byron had already gone upstairs to rest.

The owner also returned to normal, serving bread and broth to the four of them, and giving some extra salted dried fish. Loras was in a good mood, and finally stopped being beaten blindly like before, and the gloom in his heart dissipated.

A tall guard ran straight to the four of them, panting and asked, "Kid, are you a student of Lord Aven?"

"Aven, are you talking about the old man in the gray robe?" replied Rodrith angrily, still haunted by the old man for leaving them.

"Don't listen to his nonsense! we're not his students, but we have a good relationship with him, so may I ask Lord Evan to ask you to come to us?" Loras explained to the guards.

"Since you're a student of Lord Aven, there must be a way. It's too late to explain, follow me!" the guard said, turning and running out of the gate.

Although the four of them were confused, they still followed, but the sight in front of them startled them.

At this time, the door of the Starlight Inn was already full of onlookers, talking about something. It seems that the guest who slipped away spread the news of the murder of the outlaws in the inn.

As soon as they saw Fei Lin and they rushed out of the inn, they immediately booed.

"How many children, what about the Vicious Knight?" said a young man, with a little disappointment.

"Maybe it's their children, and even the bad guys come out to rob these days, and they have to drag their families with them. An obese aunt also expressed her opinion.

"Don't be stupid! look at the skinny guy in the middle, I can kick several of them to death with a single kick!" Jaime, the butcher of the bazaar, shouted viciously, and raised the kitchen knife in his hand as he spoke, causing the people around him to break out in a cold sweat.

Fei Lin and his party broke out of the siege with difficulty, and finally arrived at the mayor's residence.

"You're a student of Lord Aven, aren't you?" Bard asked eagerly, a hint of suspicion in his eyes.

"Yes, we all learn magic from Mr. Aven. Loras nodded in reply, though the sword he wore at his waist was unconvincing.

"I want you to ask you to find my daughter, Ruth, who must have been lost near the cemetery. Bud didn't care so much at the moment, he just wanted to get Ruth back as soon as possible.

"No problem, we've got it!" Rodrith readily agreed to Bard's request.

They didn't stay any longer, and after Bard had explained a few things that needed attention, they followed the guard from before to the gate of the town.

"No, pick two horses, cross the wooden bridge and go north, until you see the gap between the two mountains, and then you will come to the cemetery. The guard patiently explained.

The outside world had darkened, and from time to time the call of owls could be heard, and the wilderness at night looked particularly eerie in the cold moonlight.

They tied their horses to a stake next to the road and trekked into the dark woods. Relying on the pale blue flames ignited by Filin's hands, he could barely see what was around him.

"It should be almost there. Not far away, two arc-shaped silhouettes slowly appeared, which seemed to be the gap between the two mountains that the guards had mentioned.

In a few moments, Filin and his party came to the entrance of the valley, and Rodrith lifted the flames and was about to step inside.

"Wait!" Loras looked around warily, hurriedly calling out to the magic apprentice. Rodlis looked back in surprise, "You're going to scare me to death on the big night?"

"You throw a fireball into it and see. Loras motioned for Filin and Ellie to move closer to him.

Rodlis pursed his lips, ignited a flame with his hands, and threw himself into the valley.

The pale blue light made a dazzling trail in the darkness, flashing into the valley. As if sucked by something, it went out in a few seconds.

"What the hell is that?" Ellie, as a second-order archer, had much sharper eyesight than ordinary people, and after just a few seconds, she seemed to have made a new discovery.

"Ellie, what do you see?" Film, in a low voice, asked.

"I couldn't see exactly what it looked like, the fog was so thick. Ellie shook her head and continued, "However, I vaguely saw several humanoid figures. ”

Loras slowly drew his sword and held it in his hand, a hint of foreboding in his heart.

"It is extremely disadvantageous for us to act rashly now, it is better to light a fire outside the valley and wait until dawn before going in. All three were unanimously in favor of Film's proposal.

Loras woke up, but there was a white expanse in front of him, and the visibility was only about half a meter. He was startled and shouted the names of Ellie. It's just that under the interference of the dense fog, the sound can't be transmitted far at all.

Suddenly, his arm slammed into something hard, and a creepy cry rang out in his ears.

"Who is it?!"
