Chapter 13: A round of applause for yourself

Applause is a kind of recognition and encouragement, many people are waiting for applause to affirm their efforts, it seems that without applause all efforts are in vain. Even if no one agrees with you, you have to applaud yourself, after all, you've already worked hard, haven't you?

Because of an embarrassing experience, I learned that instead of waiting for others to affirm, it is better to recognize myself first. On that occasion, I had carefully prepared a performance, and when I stood on the stage and performed hard, I noticed that some of the audience members had boring expressions. When I finished the performance and bowed to the audience, only a few people applauded. I forced my composure off the stage, trying to control the tears that were about to burst into my eyes, chatting casually with the other performers, and then I heard the audience thunderous applause for someone else's performance.

I couldn't stand the difference anymore and hid in a place where no one was crying. When I was done crying, I wiped away my tears, performed again in that quiet corner, and applauded myself. I clapped my hands vigorously, as if to make up for the applause I hadn't received. My hands were red, and at that moment, I knew that it didn't matter if my efforts were not appreciated by others, and I felt that I had done well enough.

After this time, I no longer wait for others to approve and encourage me, and I no longer deny my efforts for those who are irrelevant. Yes, those irrelevant people simply didn't see my efforts on stage, let alone my efforts off stage, so why should I be sad for their evaluation?

The same is true in life, we don't live to get applause, we don't need to wait for applause to come to appreciate ourselves. Learn to applaud yourself and give your warmest applause for your efforts and efforts.
