Language art that perfectly navigates a variety of scenarios
The foil of the occasion enables people to express infinitely rich content with limited rhetoric and complete verbal communication. However, different occasions have different constraints and influences on the use of language. This requires us to scientifically analyze the factors of the occasion and take corresponding countermeasures. If we can make appropriate use of the occasion and borrow the specific meaning of the situation in a specific time and space, we will improve the language arts and achieve satisfactory results.
● Bixing Law
Bixingben is a technique of poetry creation, which here refers to a method of language expression. "Those who prosper, foretell other things to cause the words to be sung." That is, starting with the immediate matter and gradually leading to the content to be discussed. In some cases, it is inconvenient to get straight to the point and get to the center of the topic, and when you need to take a detour, you can use the method of comparison, talk about what you have seen or heard in a specific time and place, and then turn to the main topic after the atmosphere is harmonious.
"Compare with the other." That is, combined with the specific image expression in the occasion, the metaphor is set according to the place. At the welcome banquet of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the famous pipa player Liu Dehai went to the United States to participate in the music festival, facing the candlelight placed by the host at the banquet, he said with emotion: "I am very happy to meet old friends today. The candlelight on the table in front of me is so peaceful, it symbolizes the harmonious friendship between the musicians of our two countries. Moreover, the fiery candlelight, it expresses the warm heart between our guests and hosts. This is the successful use of the Bixing technique.
The metaphor mentioned here is actually a general term for rhetorical techniques such as metaphor, contrast, and analogy. The application of the technique in literary and artistic creation can enhance the artistic appeal of the work. In the same way, the application of the technique in our language expression can also increase the artistic charm of language and improve the communicative effect of language. The two techniques of comparison and xing are often used together, that is, the origin of the object and the expression of the object.
There is such an example in "Warring States Policy":
Zhuang Xin once advised King Xiang of Chu not to be lascivious and extravagant, but King Xiang did not listen. After Qin captured a large part of the Chu state, the king of Chu woke up and summoned Zhuang Xin to ask for advice. Zhuang Xin said, "King, have you ever seen a dragonfly? Six legs, four wings, flying high in the sky. It flies down to hunt insects, thinking it is safe, but it is caught by a child and killed, and ends up as food for ants. Zhuang Xin used dragonflies to prosper, and also compared dragonflies, children, and ants to illustrate the danger of losing vigilance, and made the king of Chu realize the importance of the problem.
In our work aimed at persuading, educating, inspiring, and guiding, we must make rational use of this technique, and we must not make rigid or chaotic comparisons.
●Timpani control method
No matter what the occasion is, the first sentence should reflect its own linguistic characteristics, so as to control the communicative atmosphere and quickly "capture" the listener's hearing, mind and even heartstrings, just like the tuning of the tune when the music is playing.
The beginning of "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" is a wake-up call, "Speaking of the general trend of the world, it will be together for a long time, and it will be divided for a long time." In a word, it is the beginning of war and turmoil. In the movie "The Marshal and the Soldier", the training team members learned that the marshal was going to give a lecture, but the marshal wanted to change this serious and tense atmosphere. So he slowly approached the queue: "If you want me to speak, I will have two words: disband!" The team members were puzzled, and the marshal sat under a tree, beckoned the team members to gather around him, and said with a smile: "Replace training with lectures, can you train athletes who fight tough battles?" "I'm here to talk to you and help you solve your problems." The marshal used an approachable and gentle remark as the opening remark, completely dispelling the inhibitions of the players, and thus a lively heart-to-heart conversation scene like a family began.
●Contrasting use of speech styles
This method is suitable for occasions when the crowd is angry or the crowd is full of complaints, so as to effectively dispel their mental baggage and eliminate their abnormal thoughts and emotions. When a subordinate is wronged at work, or is dissatisfied with the misunderstanding of the superior's policy, etc., he will often have a strong anger, lose his temper at the superior, and refuse to give the other party a chance to explain. If the superiors have the same high voice and the same tough tone, it will definitely add fuel to the fire. At this time, the superior can first let him vent his dissatisfaction in his heart, and when his mood gradually calms down, he can correctly explain and persuade with a low and steady tone and polite wording, and use cold to heat to suppress Yang, resulting in the contrast between the speech styles of the two sides, and the low and steady tone unconsciously eases and adjusts the high-pitched toughness of the other party.
When we speak, we must not only contrast with the listener's speech in style, but also in the rhythm of our own speech. There are silences and agitations, and in the strong contrast of ups and downs, it gives a strong impression to the listener. Silence creates silence, with a certain majesty, which is convenient for controlling the scene; Agitation can convey one's feelings to the listener more contagiously. Appropriate pauses can give the listener time to understand the problem, help them "think in sync" with us, and can also create suspense and foreshadowing the following.
On the eve of the American Revolution, Secretary of State Fetterick Henry's speech to the Virginia State Assembly ended with the words: "Why should we stand here and stand by while our fellow citizens are already on the field?" What do the gentlemen want? What do you want to achieve? Is life so precious? Peace is so sweet? Or even at the cost of being chained and enslaved? O God Almighty, stop this! In this battle, I don't know how others will behave. As for me, I'd rather die than be free! ”
The charm of this passage is not only reflected in the profound understanding of life, freedom, and peace, but also in the wonderful use of its different language styles. The first sentence is gloomy and tragic, and then six questions are used in a row, heartily raising a series of unavoidable and alarming questions. The last sentence is not only profoundly thoughtful, but also linguistically brilliant.
● Grab a trigger point
There are many issues involved in various occasions, and there are many things to talk about, and if you can grasp a trigger point and talk about it in depth, it will be closer to the occasion.
At the dinner party of the four educational circles in Beijing to celebrate Dr. Dewey's 60th birthday, Mr. Cai Yuanpei, as the president of Peking University, delivered a congratulatory speech on behalf of Peking University, which was a point worthy of the occasion. "The first thing I thought about was that the doctor and Confucius had the same birthday." Using this accidental coincidence of time as an introduction, Dewey is compared with Confucius as a philosopher and educator in ancient China. On the occasion of celebrating Dr. Dewey's birthday, these meanings were used to praise Mr. Dewey, and at the same time, he paid attention to both the host and the guest, and appropriately expressed the meaning of congratulations. Finally, he added: "And our commemoration of Confucius's birthday has no direct relationship with Confucius; For the celebration of the doctor's birthday, we can also ask the doctor directly for advice. So for the doctor's birthday, we feel a little more intimate. On behalf of all of us at Peking University, I would like to wish Mr. Dewey a long life! Mr. Cai's words broke through the appropriate trigger point - a coincidence of time, adapted to the requirements of the occasion, and the content was real and profound.
●Occasion substitution method
Often, some words or content are only suitable for a specific context, and if the language of another occasion is used cleverly, it will receive the artistic effect of ordinary words.
In the command post of a railway unit at the Luan construction site, the working environment was harsh and the labor was hard. A reporter had lunch with the leader of the command post, and he reminded the leader with dissatisfaction: "There are so many mosquitoes in your command post that they have bitten my legs!" At this time, everyone can only carry forward the spirit of not being afraid of hardship and overcome all difficulties, and saying this is just a verbal complaint, and if the leader seriously preaches "hard struggle," he will certainly lose his appetite. The leader skillfully used the substitution, and the exit was extraordinary: "Then what can I do?" They're on my turf, not in my formation! The words caused the people in the cafeteria to burst into laughter. This witty phrase is full of optimism, and it is made artistic by using the word of another occasion, "establishment", to borrow the language of personnel cadres to talk about work on formal occasions.
● Sound East Strikes West Law
In order to achieve a certain goal, it is not directly said from the positive side of the goal, but from the opposite aspect, but in fact, the purpose is the goal to be achieved positively. East and West are diametrically opposed, but they are interconnected. The existence of any thing will have an impact on the things around it, and an influence field will be formed within the scope of its influence. Therefore, when using sound to attack the West, it is necessary to pay special attention to the connection between things.
According to the record of "Yanzi Spring and Autumn", Qi Jinggong loves to hunt, and once Candle Zou accidentally let an eagle escape, Jing Gong wanted to cut Candle Zou. In order to save Candle Zou, Yan Zi met Jing Gong and said, "He has three major crimes, how can he be easily killed?" Let me list it before I kill him. So Yan Zi said to Zhu Zou: "He raised birds for the king, but let the birds escape, this crime; Thou hast caused the king to kill for the sake of the birds, these two sins; If you are killed, everyone in the world blames the king for these three crimes. After hearing this, King Qi had no choice but to pardon Candle Zou.
Here, Yan Zi not only avoided the suspicion of interceding for Candle Zou, but also really saved Candle Zou; not only pointed out Qi Jinggong's mistakes, but also did not hurt Jinggong's face. In the same way, when we communicate with our superiors or subordinates, we should also take into account the self-esteem of the other party, and skillfully combine principle with flexibility.
