Chapter 97: The Debate (Part II)

"Master, since Tianzhu introduced my Buddhism to the Tang Dynasty, there has been a difference between Mahayana Buddhism and Hinayana Buddhism.

"In the Buddha country of Tianzhu, this Mahayana Buddhism has been prevalent for a long time, and she is relative to the shravaka and the Yuanjue vehicle, also known as the Bodhisattva vehicle. "Ride" is a vehicle such as a vehicle or a ship, which can carry pedestrians to different destinations near and far, which is a metaphor for the Dharma of our Buddhism. Shravaka and karma focus on one's own liberation, so it is called "Theravada Buddhism".

"Bodhisattva is the abbreviation of Bodhisattva, which means enlightened sentient beings. Whoever has a great ambition to save himself and all sentient beings from suffering and attain peace and happiness, and to free himself and all sentient beings from the cycle of birth and death and attain complete enlightenment, is called a bodhisattva. ”

"The Bodhisattva vehicle pays special attention to the development of bodhichitta, which is to seek the path of the Buddha and transform sentient beings downward. Seeking the Buddha is the lofty ideal of unremitting progress, and transforming sentient beings is the broad mind of sacrificing oneself for the group, so it is called Mahayana Buddhism, Mahayana Buddhism especially encourages the 'six degrees' and 'four degrees', and the practice of one's own liberation and enables all sentient beings to reach the other side of nirvana. ”

Jiang Liuer patiently explained in detail the origin and meaning of Mahayana Buddhism and the differences from Theravada Buddhism.

And the Sanskrit word for "degree" in the six degrees is 'paramita', which means to reach the other shore, that is, from this shore of afflictions to the other shore of enlightenment. The six degrees are the six ways to get to the other side. The first is to give alms, the second is to take vows, the third is to endure humiliation, the fourth is to practice diligently, the fifth is to meditate, and the sixth is prajnaparami. ”

"Giving cures our greed and cultivates compassion, love, and compassion. Keeping the vows enables us to follow the rules and not do things that exceed the rules, which is as wonderful as what Confucius said. Forbearance can cultivate our virtues of humility and generosity, and it is also in line with the virtues of gentleness, kindness, courtesy, frugality, and generosity in the Analects. Diligence can prevent slackness, and it is necessary to be earnest, to practice diligently, and not to have some interruptions, which is the foundation for Buddhahood. Meditation can concentrate a high degree of concentration and give rise to prajna wisdom. Prajna enables the practitioner to have a correct view, not to blindly follow or be superstitious, but to have a keen and precise judgment and insight. ”

"In addition to diligently cultivating the six degrees, it is also necessary to go deep into the crowd, purify sentient beings, and practice the four methods. It is the four types of charity, love, lixing and colleagues. ”

"Knowing these fundamental teachings of Mahayana Buddhism helps the great light of the Dharma realm to infuse our minds with the eight consciousnesses. ”

"Buddhism is broad and profound, not a day to understand, and the little monk said this, is only the basic doctrine of Mahayana Buddhism, its essence is far away in the Buddha country Tianzhu, if you want to learn the authentic essence of Mahayana Buddhism, you must go to Tianzhu Buddha country in person. Jiang Liuer concluded that he never forgot his vow to go to the west to learn scriptures.

"Buddha Cloud World...... Dare to ask the little master, what is the explanation of this vast world?" An elderly Venerable who was rich in body and a little arrogant in his expression asked in a deep voice, although his tone was a little polite, but in fact, he was testing Jiang Liu'er's knowledge.

"Buddhism divides the world into small worlds, small worlds, middle worlds and large worlds. He continued: "The Lengyan Sutra once said: The world is the migration, and the boundary is the direction. What we should know now is that East, West, South, North, Southeast, Southwest, Northeast, Northwest, Upper and Lower are boundaries, and the past, future, and present are the world. ”

It turns out that the origin of the word 'world' is here, which indicates both direction and time. All the people under the pulpit suddenly realized.

"A space illuminated by the same sun and moon is a small world. A thousand small worlds are a small thousand worlds, a thousand small thousand worlds are one thousand worlds, and a thousand small thousand worlds are one thousand worlds. With three accumulations, it is called 'three thousand worlds'. ”

"The size of the world is about equality," Jiang Liu'er continued, "The Nirvana Sutra says that Buddhas and Bodhisattvas can enter the mustard seed with 3,000 worlds, and all living beings in them are not compelled and narrow, and there is no difference between them. ”

Hearing this, the people under the pulpit were amazed again, not wanting this world to be so big, beyond imagination.

Seeing everyone's reactions, Jiang Liu'er's face was unwavering, and he said: "The world of Buddhism is so incredible, the Huayan Sutra says: The small world is the big world, the big world is the small world, the world is the world that cannot be said, the world that cannot be said is the world, the world that cannot be said is the world, the world that cannot be said is the world, the world that cannot be said is the world, and the world that cannot be said is the world of the ten directions, and the thought is endless." ”

"This little mage, I heard you say so much just now, but the old man is confused, and I hope that the little mage will continue to teach. Upgrading the "little master" in his mouth to "little mage", the elder continued to ask.

"The 'Huazang world' mentioned in the Huayan Sutra is the world of the Buddha. It tells us very clearly: the world is infinite, the universe is infinite. The 'Huazang World' is the Buddha's Dharmakaya, Virujana, the land of eternal silence. ”

Looking at the eyes of many people under the pulpit, looking puzzled, Jiang Liu'er explained: "The 'Dharma Body' is the Buddha's self-nature, which is really like coming to hide. The Buddha has three bodies, Siddhartha, the prince of Tianzhu, is the 'incarnation' of the Buddha in this world, Lushena Buddha is the Buddha's 'corresponding body', and Virujana Buddha is the Buddha's 'dharma body'. ”

"The Dharmakaya is like the moon in the sky, and the incarnation is like a shadow in the water. The incarnation of the Buddha is everywhere, just as the shadow of the moon is everywhere. Jiang Liuer simply put it more colloquially.

"Oh-" the elder understood a little, "that is, the Buddha is dead, but the incarnation is dead, but the Dharma body is still there?"

"Exactly. However, the Dharmakaya of the Buddha is different, the Dharmakaya is immortal, and its permanent residence is the land of eternal silence, which is the Huazang world, also known as the land of reason, which is the place where the Buddha completely cuts off the fundamental ignorance, the land where the Buddha dwells in the ultimate fruit of wonderful enlightenment, and the land of the Buddha who dwells in permanence, silence, and light. ”

"Is this land of eternal silence the Western Elysium?"

"No," Jiang Liu'er shook her head lightly, "Chang Lin Guang Land also belongs to our Suva world, it is the Buddha's real world, and it is also his Dharma Body World, also known as the 'Suva Pure Land'. ”

There was silence under the pulpit, and everyone was attracted by Jiang Liuer's profound Buddhism and the vast world of expression.

"The beauty of the Pure Land of Suva is no less than that of the Pure Land of Bliss," Jiang Liu'er said, "the bodhisattvas there have Vajra seats at any time, and when people walk on the ground, the ground will change softly with your movements, which is very comfortable, and Virujana Nyorai sits on the lotus seat at the top, and our Suva world is on the thirteenth layer of the Huazang world, which is called 'Shining in the Ten Directions Blazing Treasure Bright World Species'." ”

"Wait, wait, Master Xuanzang. Someone under the altar reacted, "Do you mean that the Pure Land of Sampa and the Land of Sampa are actually the same world?"

"Exactly. Jiang Liuer nodded solemnly.

"Then why can't we see it?" someone asked in public.

That's because our hearts aren't pure enough...... Our hearts are like a mirror, and once they are dusty, they lose their ability to see people. In fact, whether it is the Dharmakaya or the Eternal Light Land, these are not originally expressible in human language, but the Buddha used this word to name it in order for the people of our world to understand the realm of the Buddha, which is also the origin of the Buddha's birth in the Lotus Sutra. ”
